Anal Fissure

A small tear in the lining of the anus causing sharp burning pain during and after bowel movements. Extremely common — and very treatable.

Symptoms

Sharp burning pain during defecation
Bright red blood on toilet paper
Lingering pain after stools
Visible tear or skin tag
Muscle spasm

Why It Happens

Anal fissures commonly occur due to hard stools, chronic constipation, straining during bowel movements, or childbirth. The pain cycle can lead to muscle spasms that prevent healing.

Good news:

With proper treatment, most fissures heal completely within weeks.

Treatment Options

Conservative Management

Fibre, hydration, topical creams, and lifestyle changes

ADVANCED

Laser Sphincterolysis

Minimally invasive laser procedure for chronic fissures

Fissurectomy

Surgical removal of chronic fissure tissue

Internal Sphincterotomy

Anal Fistula

An abnormal tunnel connecting the inside of the anal canal to the surrounding skin — usually following an anal abscess. Rarely heals without treatment.

Symptoms

Persistent pus or blood discharge
Pain and swelling
Itching and irritation
Recurrent abscesses

Diagnosis

Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. We use a combination of:

Video proctoscopy
Fistula probe examination
MRI or ultrasound imaging

Symptoms

Pain and redness near tailbone
Pus or blood discharge

Hair visible in sinus opening
Fever if infected
Difficulty sitting

Risk Factors

Pilonidal sinus commonly affects young adults, especially men with thick body hair. Contributing factors include:

  • Prolonged sitting (drivers, office workers)
  • Excessive body hair
  • Tight clothing and friction
  • Poor hygiene in the area

Prevention tip:

Good hygiene, regular hair removal, and avoiding prolonged sitting can reduce risk.
